Capra's 22nd feature as director, The Bitter Tea of General Yen is set during China's civil war and deals with conflicts still going on as the film was being made. It star's Barabara Stanwyck as a beautiful young missionary and a Swedish actor, Nils Asther (in yellow face) as a cruel general who befriends her.
